What to Expect   Most people walk into the 300SF space and feel instantly more relaxed, almost as if you were on a salt crystal beach, with twinkling stars overhead and soft music and ocean sounds.  Constructed of nearly 7 tons of pure Himalayan Salt, the Lexington Salt Cave offers the ambiance of a glowing pink salt cave combined with a state of the art Halotherapy system that infuses the air with a dry aerosol of microscopic, 99.9% pure pharmaceutical grade sodium chloride particles ( 0.1-3.0 microns are considered most effective for reaching the deeper parts of the lungs) at a concentration range of 5 - 10 milligrams per cubic feet of air.

The salty air is breathed deep into the lungs and system, absorbing bacteria, pollen, and other toxins, allowing the body to naturally rid itself of these pollutants and strengthen its immunity. The cave also offers antioxidant properties, helping to absorb toxins ingested by our bodies, while allowing our minds and eyes to rest from  cell phone, computer and screen use.  Just like time spent in nature or at the beach has been shown to relieve stress, improve mood and alleviate sleeplessness, among other benefits, so can time in the Salt Cave!   Additional benefits include relief from stress, anxiety and athlete recovery.  The overall health and wellness perks of spending 45 minutes in a Lexington Salt Cave Halotherapy session can be compared to spending a week at the beach!

Established amidst the COVID-19 crisis, Lexington Salt Cave, LLC was created to be a healing space for all people to relax, restore, and rejuvenate,  by improving respiratory health and overall wellness. Owner, Lara Levine, a registered yoga teacher and Lexington resident dreamed of offering the community an extraordinary healing space in which to breathe and let go, experience meditation, yoga and other wellness practices, and support overall health and well-being.

Lexington Salt Cave offers natural, complementary wellness practices to the community and supports physical and mental health, providing Halotherapy (dry salt therapy), Ionic Detox Foot Baths, Massage in the Cave, Yoga,  Sound Healing,  Guided Meditation, Workshops and more.  The majority of appointments are community style, 45-minute sessions, to allow your nervous system to completely relax and refresh. Many people sit or lay on the salt floor or recline in the zero-gravity beach chairs, allowing their mind to let go while they meditate, dream or even take a nap!  We also offer private sessions for up to 10 people!  Please contact us to book the Lexington Salt Cave for a private event. We love to host unique gatherings in our soulful space.

What is Halotherapy?

First discovered in the salt mines of Poland, and later recognized as an accepted alternative health treatment, Halotherapy is an ancient, natural, complementary therapy that involves exposure to and inhalation of dry, salt-infused air.  Salt Therapy has been shown to help alleviate symptoms of many ailments of body and mind, such as:

How Does It Work? Dry, microscopic particles of 99.9% pure pharmaceutical-grade sodium chloride are diffused into the air in a restorative environment, with nearly 7 tons of pink Himalayan salt on the walls and floors. Your body inhales and absorbs the anti-inflammatory, microscopic salt particles, which are anti-bacterial, anti-fungal and free of dust and allergens.  Salt is also proven to suppress the spread of viruses.

These anti-inflammatory  salt particles absorb toxins and help the body naturally remove them.  They penetrate deep into the airways, calming and relaxing internal muscles and allowing the nervous system to rebalance, and encouraging cellular regeneration. Customers can enjoy the therapy while relaxing, meditating, receiving a massage or other treatment, doing yoga, or just napping.

Many report an increased feeling of well-being, clarity and rejuvenation following a session. Studies across the world have shown the efficacy of Halotherapy, however always check with your doctor before changing your medical routine. It is a safe and enjoyable natural healing experience for both body and mind! We invite you to come see for yourself!

Frequently Asked Questions

What is it like?

Regular Community Halotherapy sessions are communal with zero-gravity chairs and seating on the salt crystal floor.  They are meditative sessions that last 45 minutes. We also reserve private sessions for 1 to up to 10!  There is constant air circulation and ventilation in the cave with cool and dry temperature around 68-70 degrees.  The salt is antibacterial, antifungal, and offers anti-inflammatory benefits!  You may wear whatever is comfortable. We request that you do not wear strong  smelling scents or lotions that may bother others.  Please arrive  about 10- minutes before your session to remove and stash your shoes  and settle in (you may bring personal articles into the cave, but we recommend traveling light for convenience, and cell phones are not recommended inside!).  Once you enter the cave, you’ll relax in one of our zero-gravity chairs or settle in on the salt floor with floor pillows -- many people prefer it!   The soft pink light and relaxing music along with some quiet white noise from the Halogenerator will lull you into a relaxed state, so just sit back and enjoy the peace for 45 minutes! We encourage you to practice some mindful breathing, focusing on deep inhales and complete exhales, full belly breathing and allowing the mind to follow along with the breath to help relax and calm your nervous system. Breathing in the salty air is therapeutic and full of health and wellness benefits.  You may notice being able to breathe more easily.  And don't worry if you fall asleep, we will gently awaken you if needed at the end of the session. We provide a warm blanket to take into the cave, but feel free to bring your own blanket or eye pillow for maximum comfort!

What do I wear?

You may wear comfortable clothing that you can relax in! The cave is  cool and dry with a temperature of about 68-70 degrees.  If you have tender feet, you may want to wear clean socks, and bare feet are optional! The salt is antibacterial and anti-fungal, as well as anti-inflammatory! Feel welcome to bring your own blanket, eye pillows or other comfort items. Water containers are also welcome inside the space.

Can I read or use my phone while in the Cave?

Reading may be difficult (as it’s very low light) and phone use in the Cave is not suggested other than to take a few photos prior or after the session. We recommend allowing the soft music and white noise of the Halogenerator to lull you into a meditative or sleep state. Many people even nap during their session! You’ll be surprised at how quickly time passes! If you would like to experience the Cave with more activity, we suggest salty yoga , massage, reiki, or attending one of our many wellness events! If you wish to socialize, we suggest reserving a private session for your group.  See all events HERE.

What if I need to cough or sneeze?

We provide tissues in the Cave and rarely the salt-infused air may cause a tickle in your sinuses or throat while it helps to trap contaminants and thin mucous in the airways. The antimicrobial nature of the salt will help to neutralize any germs. Just use the tissue to cover your mouth and nose and be respectful of others in the space. The Cave air is ventilated and air constantly circulated, but we do ask if you are  battling a very active cough or truly ill to please wait until you are feeling better and not contagious.

How will I feel afterwards?

Most people report feeling a deep sense of relaxation and rejuvenation. You may notice your sinuses are more open, and even feel as if you can breathe better. Salt therapy doesn't dehydrated the body, however, the salt is highly absorbent and attracts water into the respiratory system and skin, so you may notice some drainage as it thins mucous and helps the body flush out foreign material.  We recommend drinking plenty of water throughout the day to help flush out allergens, bacteria or mucus.  Many tell us they sleep better and see improvements in allergies, asthma or skin disorders, as well as symptoms of COPD, bronchitis, anxiety, stress, snoring and cystic fibrosis with regular sessions. Halotherapy is a natural, safe way to complement your health and wellness routine.  Always ask your doctor if you have questions or before changing your prescribed medicines.
